James Stroud 2013 OF Bishop Sullivan HS (VA)

 

James Stroud is a 5'11/185lbs. 2013 outfielder attending Bishop Sullivan Catholic HS in Virginia Beach, VA.  James is one of the most advanced athletes in the state and has skills and strengths that rate him as a national level recruit.  James excels in the classroom and academics will play a part in his college selection process.  James posted a 4.59 forty time and a 3.97 home to first base time.  5 tool player with advanced strength.  Stroud posted a 90mph exit velocity on the radar tee and shows current college power that is not far from being a pro tool.  He is balanced in the box and shows outstanding bat speed and hand strength with a very short bat path and very advanced torque in his swing.  Nice triggering action in his lower half with big power projection at the next level.  In the outfield he showed 84mph arm velocity that we have seen as high as 89 at past events.  He is quick to the ball and has good carry on his throws.  On the mound he showed 84mph fb with very nice armside run and solid hs command, a 68mph cb that has good shape and is still developing bite, and a 71mph change up with solid command and spotty down darting life.  Stroud is a top 5 rated type player in  the state of Virginia and we see major interest from both Top D1 colleges and also major league scouts.  Physical enough for draft consideration, time will tell if skills will be polished enough for a good spot in the major league free agent draft in 2013.  6 star rated player.

 

 

Kyle Porter 2012 OF Kellam HS (VA)

 

Kyle Porter is a 6'2/180lbs. 2012 SS attending Kellam HS in Virginia Beach, VA.  Porter showed speed and quickness posting a 4.81 forty time and 4.21 home to first base time.  Spent the fall playing football and is playing catch up in some respects to his skills development.  Definite talent here and Porter should flourish in the right environment given time to develop.   In the outfield he showed 73mph arm velocity reading. Porter hits from the right side with a tall stance and very nice bat speed through the zone and good drive after contact.  He has a simple approach with very little loading action,  but he is very productive with power and should see even more juice in his bat as he connects more rhythm in his loading of his swing.   Porter showed very nice power posting a 81mph exit velocity off the radar tee.  Porter has a nice frame and should add more size and strength with natural maturation and hard work that should continue to add to his game.  College projection.  Strong and developing.  3 star rated player.

Andrew Parker 2013 OF Western Branch HS (VA)

 

Andrew Parker is a 5'9/152lbs. 2013 OF attending Western Branch HS in Chesapeake, VA.  Parker is quick to the ball in the outfield with very good transfers and online throws showing 74mph arm velocity.  Parker shows left field skills and has good first step instincts.  Parker posted a 5.13 forty time and a 4.56 home to first base time.  In the batters box, he swings from the right hand side with good bat speed and balance in his swing showing above average power and hand strength for his age.  Parker should be a good rbi producer at the next level.  Parker showed 77mph exit velocity on the radar tee.  On the mound the LHP showed a 75mph fb with good command and age average life, a 57mph cb with big depth and a 67mph cb with ok command and life.   Parker shows good skills and is still developing with natural maturation and strength development.  4 star rated player.

Jeff Orzell 2013 RHP First Colonial HS (VA)

 

Jeff Orzell is a 5'11/175lbs. 2013 RHP attending First Colonial HS in Virginia Beach, VA.  Orzell is athletic on the mound with a repeatable delivery throwing from a mid 3/4 arm slot showing above average hs arm speed.  He showed 83mph fb with good command to both sides of the plate with some arm side run, a 66mph cb with good spin and average depth, and a 76mph change up that shows good down action and solid command.  Orzell has a clean delivery with online stride and clean arm action on the backside arch.  We see upper 80's fb very soon and a frame that should generate nice leverage.  Orzell posted a 78mph arm strength reading during infield workout with nice actions to the ball with clean and smooth transfers.  Orzell hits from the left handed side and showed very good balance in his swing with above average hs bat speed and a short bat path to the ball.  Athletic in the batters box, Orzell should hit well in hs and could have success at the college level.  Orzel posted a 84mph exit velocity on the radar tee showing well above average hs power.  Orzell is a smooth runner showing a 5.01 forty time and a 4.66 home to first base time.  Athletic on the mound with projection for upper 80's fb and nice cb with very good change up.  Definite college projection  4 star rated player.

Timothy Newman 2012 C Phoebus HS (VA)

 

Timothy Newman is a 6'0/165lbs.  2012 catcher attending Phoebus, VA.  Newman has made a verbal commitment to The University of Mary Washington.  Newman posted a 2.03 pop time and a 73mph arm velocity reading.  He shows ability to handle dirt balls and has very good blocking skills.  Newman has college level speed in his transfers and will lower his pop time with continued arm strength development.  Newman is athletic player both behind the plate and in the batters box.  We saw impressive strides in his approach at the plate with very nice bat speed and quickness to the ball.  Newman showed above average hs power and posted a 78mph exit velocity off the radar tee.  There is balance in his swing and much better use of his lower half than we have seen to date.  Posted a 5.47 forty time and a 5.00 home to first base time.  Definite college tools behind the plate and a bat that is catching up, quickly.  4 star rated player.

 

Stephen Lorkiewicz 2012 2B/OF Oscar Smith HS (VA)

 

Stephen Lorkiwiecz is a 5'8/155lbs. 2012- 2B/OF attending Oscar Smith HS in Chesapeake, VA.  Lorkiwiecz is a very athletic player and showed very advanced quickness with a 4.78 forty time and a 4.19 home to first base time.  Definite college projection as a hitter and can play second base or outfield.  A right handed hitter with college bat speed and over time he has shown ability to drive the ball all over the field.  Lorkiwiecz showed 87mph exit velocity off the radar tee and would be a very good 2 hole hitter in a college line up.  He has a very short stroke and shows very good timing with advanced hand eye coordination.  In the infield he showed 76mph arm velocity reading and has very nice speed on his double play transfers.  Lorkiwiecz shows college level range to both sides. Morgan Hall-Bumgardner 2015 Southampton HS (VA)

 

 

Morgan Hall-Bumgardner is a 5'7/131lbs 2015 player attending Southampton HS and living in Ivor, VA.  Morgan worked out at every positions in his first skills combine and added this experience to his young resume.  Morgan posted a 6.25 forty time and a 5.44 home to first base times.  A RH hitter he showed 64mph exit velocity on the radar tee and showed good skills for his age in the batters box.  Hall-Bumgardner had a good batting practice session and showed age average strength in his actions.  Behind the plate he showed 61mph arm strength and a 2.54 pop time, He does tend to throw up hill and will improve his time with more of a down hill approach during his transfer.  On the mound he showed 69mph fb with ok command, a 54mph cb with developing shape, and a 59mph change up with good feel for his age.  At first base he showed 62mph arm strength and good actions with his glove and feet for his age.  Developing player who showed well at his first combine and he should continue to improve.

Danny Gromkoski 2013 3B Kings Fork HS (VA)

 Joshua Giles is a 5'5/175lbs. 2013 Catcher attending Ryan Academy in Norfolk, VA.  Giles posted career best numbers in all categories.  Giles showed 65mph arm strength velocity and a 2.18 pop time.   Giles shows developing skills behind the plate and has shown increases in transfer speed and footwork.   A RH hitter he showed 79mph exit velocity off the radar tee.  In the batters box , he uses a simple approach to the ball with age average bat speed and hand strength.  Balance in swing has improved and we see more power than in the past.  Giles continues to add strength and lower his pop times.  Giles posted a 5.25 forty time and a 4.74 home to first base time.   Giles is a player who will need to be followed to monitor strides in strength and quickness.  2 star rated player.   Developing player.

Harry Fischer is 5'11/205lbs 2013 SS/RHP attending Princess Anne HS in Virginia Beach,VA.  Fischer showed well at both short stop and also on the mound.  Fischer posted a 5.19 forty time and a 4.53 home to first base time.  In the infield he showed 75mph arm velocity across the infield.  Fischer has nice hands an quick transfers and gets rid of the ball quickly.  Actions may be suited best for third base at the next level.  Good hands and footwork.   Right handed hitter with good balance and strong hands for his age.  Fischer has nice balance in his swing with slight trigger using his lower half and nice acceleration through contact.  With continues strength development he has a swing designed for power.  Fischer posted a 82mph exit velocity off the radar tee.  On the mound the RHP showed a 82mph fb velocity, a 66mph cb with developing shape and will have more bite with more arm speed, and a 74mph change up.  Fischer has a athletic delivery and gets down the mound at release.  With very nice arm speed, we see mid 80's velocity in the spring.  There is nice pace in his delivery and he works down hill and out in front.  Fischer throws from a full 3/4 arm slot and stays behind the ball through release producing a heavy fastball.  Postitional player who may develop into a pitcher.  Definite college projection.  4 star rated player.

Winston Estep 2013 C Norfolk Academy (VA)

 

Winston Estep is a 6'1/175lbs 2013 primary catcher attending Norfolk Academy.  Estep is athletic and continues to improve every time we see him.  Very good projection behind the plate.  Estep posted a very nice 2.04 pop time with 73mph arm velocity from behind the plate.  Estep has well above average hs footwork and transfer speeds with online throws and very good carry at the bag.  Definite sub 2.0 arm real soon with college ability behind the dish.  Hitting from the lft handed side of the box, he showed 79mph exit velocity off the radar tee.  Estep has very good balance in the box with a short bat path and well above av hs average power and hand strength.  Estep hits from a wide stance with good balance throughout his swing.  He is quiet in the box with nice lower half rotation.  Estep stays back on the ball and shows nice follow through and finish in his swing,  Estep posted a 5.28 forty time and a 4.66 home to first base time. Christopher Carlin 2013 OF Kempsville HS (VA)

 

 

Christopher Carlin is a 2013 OF attending Kempsville HS in Virginia Beach, VA.  Carlin is a 5'7/130lbs player with a very nice right handed stroke in the batters box.  Carlin has a very good balance in his swing with a short bat path and above average hs bat speed.  Carlin showed very good balance in his swing and triggers late hitting the ball deep in the zone showing very good power for his size.  Carlin registered a 72mph exit velocity off the radar tee.   Carlin posted a 5.12 forty time, a 4.60 home to first base time.  In the outfield he showed 71mph arm strength velocity reading.   Christopher shows solid actions in his throwing motion and release with age average carry on his throws.  Defensive tools are still developing and adding strength.  Carlin is a developing player and should really benefit from natural growth and maturation.  Interesting player who needs to be followed with very good skills at the plate.

Bobby Chandler 2012 LHP Hickory HS (VA)

 

 

Bobby Chandler is a 6'2/175lbs. -2012 primary LHP attending Hickory HS in Chesapeake,VA.  Chandler showed a well paced delivery with average  effort in his delivery.  Chandler has a clean arm arch with smooth take away and clean arch circle on the backside with good balance over the rubber.  Throwing from a average 3/4 arm slot he shows age average arm speed and solid command of his fastball.  Curveball showed solid spin and medium depth on pitch.  He has nice command of his change up with good arm speed and some deception.  Chandler was in the middle of a arm strength development program and we did not feel the velocity reading would be representative of his arm strength.  Chandler posted a 5.18 forty time and a 4.65 home to first base time.  Chandler also worked out at first base posting a 75mph arm velocity across the diamond with nice footwork around the bag showing good glove work.  In the batters box hitting from the LH side he posted a 78mph exit velocity on the radar tee.  Chandler showed ager average bat speed and power with good balance in his swing and quiet head motion in swing.  We need to see Chandler again to get a clear idea of  his velocity ability.  Good pitchers frame to add strength too.  Developing player who could gift in at the right college program.

Kamron Smith 2015 Colonial Beach HS (VA)

Kamron Smith is a 2015 primary third baseman attending Colonial Beach HS in Colonial Beach, VA.  Kamron is a player who has played all over the field in the past and is now making the transition into a more defined position.  We see his role more tailored to third base at this time.  He showed 66mph velocity across the infield with age average transfer speed.  His feet work well and he gets into position to receive the ball.  Smith showed very good range to the backhand side with good transfers speed on double plays.  On the mound Smith showed age average actions and arm speed with some effort in his delivery. Craig Johnson 2014 Matoaca HS (VA)

Craig Johnson is a 2014-(5'11/155lbs.) right handed pitcher who attends Matoaca HS in Chestertfield, VA.  Johnson showed a 79mph fb with arm side run, a 66cb with good spin and age ave bite, and 66mph ch with nice feel.  Johnson throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with age average arm speed with a online stride and good pace in his delivery.  His arm works well with good arm arch on the backside with  mechanics that are clean and simple with nice follow through with balance.   Developing young pitcher who get on top of the ball with nice projection on the mound.  In the infield workout he showed solid glove skills with decent range to both side.  Third baseman tools with good release on double plays.  Johnson posted a 5.28 forty time a 4.53 home to first base time.  A left handed hitter with good leverage in his swing.  Johnson shows above average bat speed for his age with good hand strength.  Developing skills in the infield and at the plate win a position to elevate skills.  Johnson registered a 79mph exit velocity off the radar tee.  On the mound, Johnson is a young developing pitcher who could make big jumps over next 12 months and move into a upper level as a recruit.  Developing player.  3 star rated player.

Brian Goodwyn 2014 Thomas Dale HS (VA)

Brian Goodwyn is a 2014-(5'7/135lbs.) secondbaseman attending Thomas Dale HS in Chester, VA.  Goodwyn has speed and it shows in the infield as well as in the outfield.  Goodwyn posted a 4.87 forty time and a 4.37 home to first base time.  In the infield he showed 71mph arm velocity.  With very good footwork, Goodwyn has very good range to both side with a very fast release on double plays.  In the outfield he showed 74mph arm velocity reading.  Goodwyn moves well to the ball with a athletic release.  We see him at second base at the next level in a strong defensive role.  Should fill the role of a left fielder at the next level at this time.  A right handed hitter  who hits from a open stance with college level bat speed.  Goodwyn hits from a medium stance with very little loading action.  He has a very short bat path to the ball with good hand strength and with nice balance he should be a top of the line up hitter who can get on base. Jacob Huggins 2015 Cosby HS (VA)

Jacob Huggins has a might be the most advanced 2015 RHP in the state of Virginia.  Definite standout player at the event with as a 2015 player with a 81mph fb and a 'hammer' curve ball.  Definite projection for top level college skills.  Time will tell if his skills will progress to top college level, however, we see the raw materials there now.  The right hander showed 81mph fb velocity with with arm side run, a 68mph cb with hard , tight break, and a 72mph change up with nice feel.  Huggins attends Cosby HS in Richmond, VA and posted a 5.22 forty time and a 4.65 home to first base time.  The 6'1/160lbs. Huggins registered a 85mph exit velocity reading off the radar tee.  At first base he showed 78mph arm strength across the infield.  Huge upside! 5 star rated player.

Riley Wilson 2014 Cosby HS (VA)

 

Riley Wilson is 2014 OF with very good actions.  The first thing you will notice is athletic actions and a projectable frame with very nice current skills that are well above his peer group.   Wilson , 5'10-150lbs., attends Cosby HS in Richmond, VA and showed very well at the event.  Wilson posted a 5.12 forty and 4.78 home to first base times with a frame that should add strength and quickness overt the next 24 months.  In the OF he showed very clean actions with a nice athletic release showing 79mph velocity.  He gets behind the ball well and shows advanced actions in his transfers with nice carry and backspin on his throws.  At first base he shows agility and athletic balance and moves well around the bag.  Wilson showed 73mph arm strength across the diamond and has very nice body control on double plays.   Hitting from the left handed side, Wilson shows very nice leverage in the box with a simple toe turn loading action in his swing, he starts from a open stance and has a very short bat path to the ball.  Wilson shows advanced extension through contact and finished very well.  Wilson stays back well and hits the ball deep in the zone showing all the signs of developing into a very good college level hitter.  He posted a 81mph exit velocity on the radar tee.  Wilson is a young looking player with a very nice frame to add size and strength to with natural maturation and hard work.  His brother, Tyler is currently pitching in the Orioles organization, and Riley appears to have equal or better athletic actions at the same age.  Very interesting player with very big upside.  Definite college projection.  4 star rated player

Adam Meeker 2012 Cosby HS (VA)

Adam Meeker is a 2012(6'0/170lbs)-SS attending Cosby HS in Chesterfield, VA.  Meeker is a athletic SS with nice tools that should play well at the college level.  Meeker has a very nice left handed bat that should be a top of the line up punch at the college level.  Meeker shows above average bat  speed and hand strength with very good bat control.  Meeker has a line drive swing plane with excellent balance throughout his swing.  Meeker should produce for high average and line drive rbi producing gap power.  Meeker showed 79mph exit velocity off the radar tee.  Meeker shows very good footwork and gets his body into position early on ground balls with nice fluid actions throughout his release.   Excellent transfer speed on double plays with nice first step quickness.  In the infield he showed 79mph arm velocity reading across the infield.  With smooth actions and very good hands, Meeker should be a strong asset in the infield.   Meeker showed a 5.07 forty time and a 4.62 home to first base times. Excellent 2012 player with skills that project very well.  5 star rated player.

 

Braedon Lawson 2013 Paul VI HS (VA)

 

Braedon Lawson is a 2013(6'0/160lbs)- LHP/OF attending Paul VI HS.  Lawson posted a 80mph fb with nice developing sink , a 67mph cb with slurve type shape, and a 72mph ch with advanced feel and life.   Lawson has a athletic frame with a short arm arch in his delivery.   Lawson has a quick delivery with clean and polished delivery and he can stay back over the rubber  until it is time to get forward down the mound.  Lawson is very good out front with a late unloading action that is hard for hitters to pick up on.  With a quick body and nice frame, we see increased velocity with very nice depth on his curveball, Lawson shows very nice college projection with deception and very lively off speed pitches.  Definite college projection. 4 star rated player.

Christopher Hancock 2013 Western Branch HS (VA)

Christopher Hancock is a 2013-(6'3/247lbs.) first baseman who attends Western Branch HS in Chesapeake, VA.  Hancock showed a personal best posting a 5.65 forty time and a 4.84 home to first base time.  Hancock registered a 91mph exit velocity off the radar tee, another personal best, and definite college projection on power.   Hitting from the left handed side of the plate, Hancock gets the bat through the zone with power and quickness.  We saw a definite improvement in his physical build and it showed in the batters box with the best balance we have seen in his swing to date.  Hancock seems to be moving into the role of power hitting first baseman with a frame that should only improve.   At first base he showed good footwork and age average arm strength across the infield with a 73mph arm velocity reading.  Hancock showed nice strides in his footspeed and power at the plate.    Strong follow with developing skills that should garner college interest.  3 star rated player.

Seth Pleasants 2013 Churchland HS (VA)

 

Seth Pleasants is a 2013 RHP attending Churchland HS in Portsmouth, VA.  Pleasants made a nice improvement in velocity since he last attended a bbch.net skills combine and posted a personal best 81mph fb with nice, heavy, boring action on his fastball, a 66mph cb with tight spin and age average command, and a 61mph change up that has nice tumbling action at the plate.  Pleasants has a athletic and strong 6'4/210lbs frame that continues to add strength with loose arm action and good projection on velocity.  Pleasants has a balanced and clean delivery with a mid 3/4 arm slot with slight cross body stride and  showing good arm speed and out front release.   Definite eye opener on the mound with college projection.  4 star rated player.

Matthew Stevens 2013 Annandale HS (VA)

 

 

Matthew Stevens is a 2013 catcher, 5'10/145lbs., attending Annandale HS in Annandale, VA.     Stevens showed clear improvement in his running times and pop time by lowering both since his last combine in the spring of 2011.  Stevens is a nice looking 2013 catcher with projection to be a sub 2.0 pop time catcher real soon.  Stevens posted a very nice 2.05 pop time and 74mph arm velocity reading.   Behind the dish, his feet get started early and he his underway as he transfers out of the glove.  He has balance and stays behind his throws with very nice hands and transfer speeds.  Stevens showed big improvement in his pop time.  Stevens dropped his pop time by .15 sec from his last event he attended.   Hitting form the RH side of the plate he showed 78mph exit velocity off the radar tee.  Stevens uses a slight rock back loading action to get his swing started with a tall stance and nice balanced approach.  There looks to be more power in his frame with a more aggressive, attacking, action to the ball.  Line drive swing plane with quiet head during  his swing.  Recruiters will want to see Stevens "get after it" more at the plate.  Stevens is quick for a catcher,  posting a 5.00 forty and a 4.31 forty time with nice athletic stride and gait.  Athletic with very nice developing tools.  College projection. 4 star rated player.

Joshua Cale 2013 Wilson Memorial HS (VA)

 

Joshua Cale is a 2013-(6'1/165lbs.) catcher who attends Wilson Memorial HS in Fishersville, VA.  Cale posted 5.15 forty time and a 4.5 home to first base time.  Behind the plate he showed 72mph arm velocity and a 2.08 best pop time.  Cale has good actions behind the plate with quick transfers and very good directional footwork.  Cale stays low in his stance as he moves out of his catching position and shows very nice forward acceleration towards his target.  His throws shows good carry at the bag and has nice accuracy.  Overall he shows well above average catching tools for his peer group. Coty Ward is a 2014 second baseman attending Kinks Fork HS in Suffolk VA.
