Things have been far from settled on the Plains of Auburn University since the signing of new head football coach Gene Chiznik. Matters could become somewhat dicier if one of the state's best football players (2009 Mr. Football Award in Alabama) fore-goes his football commitment to the Tigers and ends up throwing a baseball instead. After all its his first love and Chiznik's recent signing of Texas quarterback Tyrik Rollinson has to enter into the equation. First and foremost could be the fact that he grew up yelling "Roll Tide", instead of "War Eagle".In many states it wouldn't matter much, but in Alabama children are almost christened into their football loyalties at birth. To jump ship isn't unheard of, but it is quite rare. Making
matters even saltier is the fact that the 6-5/200 quarterback is a potential two way draft prospect on the mound and as a third baseman. His 88-90 mph fast ball has life and many scouts love his bulldog mound presence. He also is the prototypical pro model as a third baseman with arm strength and a power bat. Moseley in his already three seasons at Leroy High has piled up nice numbers leading the school to three consecutive state titles and a 111-21 record. This spring's 3A state baseball championship will likely have to be settled through Leroy High School and Moseley will have a lot to say about its outcome. Time will tell what the outcome will be, but Coach Chiznik may find himself in the same shoes as Nick Saban last year and lose a prize football player to the draft.
