Covering the 2009 B.E.S.T. World Championships this year in Birmingham, Alabama allowed us to uncover several nice prospects. The tournament was hindered by rain almost every day, but tournament officials and field staff were able to get the tournament completed. Several players caught our eye this year. Here are a few of them.
Larry Greene (OF/3B) - 2011 from Nashville, Georgia - Chain Baseball Black
Larry is a strong prospect with MLB potential. His frame (6-1/220) and skills catch your attention immediately. He runs well and covers ground in the outfield, but showed nice skills in the infield as well. He has nice arm strength with online, accurate throws to bases. His best tool may very well be his bat. While he switch hits, we were only able to see him from the left side, but that was enough. He launched several balls during the week and showed the ability to handle upper velocity pitching. Promising prospect with now skills as a 2011.
Phillip Ervin (OF/RHP) - 2010 Leroy, Alabama - Bama Bombers Senior
Phillip is an undersized, but not under developed outfielder/pitcher from Leroy, Alabama. His body is well conditioned and he flashed fast twitch actions. On the mound he commands a fastball that sits 85-86 mph, but has more in the tank. His offspeed needs some polish, but is okay now. He shows nice athleticism in the outfield and can run balls down. At the plate he has a lot of bat speed and balls jump off his bat. He is a two-way college prospect who has already verballed to Samford University.
Dayne Parker (MIF) 2010 Roff, Oklahoma - Oklahoma Travelers
Dayne is a talented middle infielder with smooth skills and a strong arm. We saw Dayne make several nice deep 6-hole plays that challenged his arm. He has the skills to play SS at the college level. He showed good instincts for the ball and nice range. We only saw three at bats, but each time he centered the ball well and hit the ball hard with above average bat speed.
Wes Kent (MIF) 2011 Fairhope, Alabama - Bama Bombers Junior
Wes was impressive the entire week and earned the 17U tournament MVP. He has the chance to be a bigtimer and is a game changing type player. He plays the game with a lot of grit, as well as skill. He has range, speed, instincts and a solid glove. He shows a lot of defensive versitility and could likely make the move to the outfield without issue. At the plate he proved to be a very tough out with gappers to all fields and at least one homerun. Solid prospect with tools.
Matthew Fears (MIF) 2010 West Point, Georgia - Chain Baseball Black
Matthew is a talented middle infielder with solid tools. He showed nice range and the ability to play shortstop and second base. He has the range to handle either position, but arm strength may limit him to second base at the upper levels. he runs well and is a base stealing threat. he handles the bat head well and is a contact type hitter, but does show power to his pull side.
Jacob Saizan (RHP) 2010 Denham Springs, Louisiana - Louisiana Allstars 17U
Jacob is a promising RHP with looseness in his arm and a fluid delivery. His body and arm project to get better. His velocity sat in the mid 80's, but we see more there. The ball gets out of his hand well. With added core strength he could take a big jump this year. One to follow closely this year to see how he develops.
Jacob Milliman (RHP) 2011 Millbrook, Alabama - Bama Bombers Junior
This one has a huge upside. he has the prototypical power pitcher's frame at 6-4/225 with strong legs. His mechanics are raw, but there are definite skills present. His fastball sat 85-87mph with some movement to arm side. There is 90+ in his arm now with polished mechanics. His change and CB needs some work, but are effective now. We expect this one to become a national name soon.
Chase Mallard (RHP) 2010 Cullman, Alabama - Bama Bombers Senior
Chase is a promising prospect. We like his defensive skills at SS, but see his future likely on the hill. His mechanics are sound and clean. He repeats his delivery well and there is no change in delivery between three pitches. He spots his mid 80's fastball well to both sides of the plate and has nice offspeed. His frame needs to gain muscle and strength for him to reach his potential, but when it does he will become a special player.
One of the ways I judge people is whether I would trust them to take care of my dogs, and he is obviously out on that one, my yellow lab being pretty cute. I guess I might trust him with my chocolate lab, who continues suffer with his odor issues.
I agree health care should be rationed. It should be rationed by people deciding what to do with their own money and by doctors and others who decide what they want to charge for various services. If people want to blow theasdfir life savings on keeping themselves alive for another 30 days instead of donating that money to keep some stanger alive, they ought to be able to do that. If the state can take away your money that you need to stay alive, what can't they take away? Reagan was so right about socialism and health care in this old speech.
