The Stanhope Elmore High School junior showed well in his outing Saturday pitching seven complete innings and picking up a win for his school. The 6-5/215 right hander kept a low pitch count and while his fastball was somewhat off found a way to get hitters out. Milliman is country raw with nice now strength and very projectable arm and body.Last summer his FB topped out at 88 mph and sat comfortably around 86 mph. His FB has nice arm side tail action and he locates it well to both sides of the plate. His change has improved at 72 mph with nice arm side sinking action. His 65-66 mph CB still is somewhat loose and needs work, but is an effective pitch for him at the high school level. This one has a nice upside with future pro potential.
Many college recruiters and pro scouts already have Ty Washington 2011-OF/SS on their radar, and after the skills combine held at Mountain View College on Jan 31st, many more will.
Ty Washington is a 2011 5'11-155lb primary OF attending Plano East HS
living in Richardson, TX. Ty posted a 84mph OF arm velocity reading and
a 77mph IF velocity during the workout. Ty has to be listed in the top
positional players in the class of 2011 from the state of Texas. Speed,
power, and arm strength will have pro scouts as well as college
recruiters interested in him. Ty posted a 6.71sixty, a 4.89 forty, and
3.91 home to first base time on a 31 degree January day. A RH hitter
with college level bat speed and ave college power. Power does project
very well and balance and very good hand strength indicates he could
hit with wood when the time comes. Ty put up a 85mph radar tee reading.
With smooth, polished action in the outfield, Ty posted a 84mph arm
strength grade and showed advanced body control and quickness. His
speed and arm strength will play at any of the three OF spots. In the
infield workout, Ty showed 77mph arm velocity and a polished glove. Ty
has very good body control and has college level range to both sides.
Looks to be a very nice SS at the next level. With soft hands and very
nice, out front, glove action, Ty is very quick with transfers on
double plays and showed very good accuracy with all his throws. Top
"National" level player who will get a lot of college as well as pro
interest over the next 18 months.
Well maybe in some areas, but certainly not the northern half of the state where for the third week in a row the state has been blanketed with snow. While this week's 2 inches wasn't as much as last weeks 3-5 inches, it was enough to keep the opening day's round of games on the Presidents Day school holiday from playing in the northern half of the state. Tarps went down early on Saturday in many places hoping to save opening day, but it wasn't enough. For the first time that this writer can remember they are not playing ball on President's Day in Hartselle, Alabama where baseball rules and legidary Coach William Booth almost always finds a way to get games in. According to Coach Booth this morning "there was just too much ice and snow on the tarps to get it off". Believe me when I say, if it could be done it would have been done at Hartselle to get games in. Hartselle is a small city in north Alabama that lives baseball. Today's games could likely have been a showcase of the next 5A state champion with Cullman High and Southside High coming into Hartselle to take on the defending 5A state champion Tigers, as well as 6A foe Thompson High. Many feel the north 5A representative will likely be Southside High or Cullman High who both return a solid, tallented group of players. Hartselle could challenge, but with only two starters returning from last year's squad a lot of young players are going to have to step up fast.
In the south end of the state the 13th annual Hank Aaron Classic tournament is schedule to begin today with several of the southern half of the state's tallent competing in the prestigious tournament. One of those teams is 6A Fairhope High who returns most of last year's squad including two Mississippi State signees - Garrett Pitts (MIF) and Dayle Norris (RHP/1B) and a talented junior class. They could likely make a strong run at the south's representative in Montgomery in May. For a copy of the tournament bracket click on the link below.
