Well maybe in some areas, but certainly not the northern half of the state where for the third week in a row the state has been blanketed with snow. While this week's 2 inches wasn't as much as last weeks 3-5 inches, it was enough to keep the opening day's round of games on the Presidents Day school holiday from playing in the northern half of the state. Tarps went down early on Saturday in many places hoping to save opening day, but it wasn't enough. For the first time that this writer can remember they are not playing ball on President's Day in Hartselle, Alabama where baseball rules and legidary Coach William Booth almost always finds a way to get games in. According to Coach Booth this morning "there was just too much ice and snow on the tarps to get it off". Believe me when I say, if it could be done it would have been done at Hartselle to get games in. Hartselle is a small city in north Alabama that lives baseball. Today's games could likely have been a showcase of the next 5A state champion with Cullman High and Southside High coming into Hartselle to take on the defending 5A state champion Tigers, as well as 6A foe Thompson High. Many feel the north 5A representative will likely be Southside High or Cullman High who both return a solid, tallented group of players. Hartselle could challenge, but with only two starters returning from last year's squad a lot of young players are going to have to step up fast.
In the south end of the state the 13th annual Hank Aaron Classic tournament is schedule to begin today with several of the southern half of the state's tallent competing in the prestigious tournament. One of those teams is 6A Fairhope High who returns most of last year's squad including two Mississippi State signees - Garrett Pitts (MIF) and Dayle Norris (RHP/1B) and a talented junior class. They could likely make a strong run at the south's representative in Montgomery in May. For a copy of the tournament bracket click on the link below.

Coach John Pawlowski's second year at Auburn University is off to a good start with a solid in state 2010 signing class. Pawlowski and Scott Foxhall have recruited the state like old timers with solid signings of some of Alabama's top players. Here is Auburns current Alabama 2010 signing class:
Stafford Booth (IF/OF) Madison Academy - Madison, Alabama
Tyler Dial (MIF) Russelle County HS - Phenix City, Alabama
Dillan Ortman (RHP) Grissom HS - Huntsville, Alabama

By looking at his 2010 signees you would think Jacksonville State University head coach Jim Case lived in Pelham, Alabama. It might not be a bad idea if his commute would be so long. Pelham High school has had a lot of success in the past, but it has become notably better in the last few years under Coach Jeff Mauldin. Mauldin is among Alabama's best young high school baseball coaches and it shows in his upcoming team that has four 2010 players and one 2011 already commited to Division 1 schools and more college signees to come. Mauldin not only coaches, he develops players. Jacksonville State University's three signees and Coastal Carolina's one would attest to that fact. One thing for sure is the college coaches are beginning to reap some benefits from Mauldin's hard work. Among Pelham's current signees are:
Trae Santos (LHP/1B) - Jacksonville State University
Andrew Bishop (MIF) - Jacksonville State University (twin brother of Michael)
Michael Bishop (OF) - Jacksonville State University (twin brother of Andrew)
Tripp Martin (IF/RHP) - Coastal Carolina University
Trevor Fitts (RHP) - Mississippi State University (class of 2011)

Head UAB baseball coach Brian Shoop stole a top 2010 pitching prospect from the big boys by signing Chase Mallard. Mallard could likely become a two-way player for the Blazers as a middle infielder and middle relief pitcher. The wiry Mallard has smooth athletic defending skills and arm strength. He shows average range and would likely slot in at second base
best. On the mound he flashes a quick arm with clean mechanics. He projects well and his frame can put on muscle without the loss of skills. He will likely start picking up a lot of MLB scout attention after a couple of seasons at the University of Alabama Birmingham. Shoop can bring the Blazers to the upper level of Conference USA with a few more of these signings. We feel Mallard may well make some of the top tier programs regret not signing him. Mallard will be joined by:
Tyler Hamby (IF) Moody HS - Moody, Alabama
Sam Kelley (LHP) Southern Academy
Tyler Mims (C) Hoover HS - Hoover, Alabama
Edwin Reyes (RHP) Bob Jones HS - Madison, Alabama

Coach John Cohen slipped into Alabama and picked up two of the state's
top 2010 prospects in Garrett Pitts and Daryl Norris, both from Fairhope High School. Cohen is a native of Alabama and knows the state well, as does his two assistant coaches Butch Thompson and Lane Burroughs who have spent a lot of time in the state in the past coaching and recruiting. The Bulldogs have a storied past recruiting in Alabama and a former standout Aaron Weatherford was also a Fairhope High graduate. These two should also become standouts at MSU. Both are sound and advanced in skills. Coach Stuart Fuller at Fairhope seems to have a pipeline to Mississippi State and keeps cranking out Bulldogs.
Garrett Pitts - MIF/C (5-10/180) R/R
Pitts is a throwback type player who has a lot of grit in his game. He plays the game the way it should be played and is exciting to watch. He has passion and love for the game and its shows! He is solid in the field with a soft glove, nice range and a plus arm across the diamond. He has the skills to handle shortstop at the upper levels of play. He also possesses nice skills behind the plate. He is an early lineup type hitter who will punch a few out of the yard occasionally.
Daryl Norris - RHP/1B (6-1/200) R/R
Norris is a legitimate two way college player. In the field he hase nice skills as a 1B or 3B, but due to his pitching will likely end up at 1B at MSU. He has explosive power with a fst bat at the plate and is a home run threat to all fields. He also controls the bat well and centers balls with a lot of pop. On the mound he is equally as impressive with a bulldog presence and strong arm. He is advanced at the plate and on the mound, which is causing scouts some problems trying to figure out where he best fits as a draft prospect. He'll likely have a decision to make after this coming June draft.
Joining Pitts and Norris at Mississippi State will be Coty Blanchard (RHP) from Cherokee County HS.

Coach John Pawlowski, and his recruiting coordinator Scott Foxhall, have Auburn University off to a fast start in their recruiting. With most of the 2010 recruiting done and commitments from the 2011 class the two turned their
attention to the younger classes. Auburn has landed verbal commitments from two of the southeast's top prospects in the 2012 class. Both are speedy and athletic with Major League type skills. Both also come from Auburn's home state of Alabama and one of the toughest 6A regions in the state - Region 6 in Birmingham. Auburn's major concern could could be surviving the Major League draft with the two in a couple of years. Both have the prototypical size and tools to gain a lot of attention by MLB scouts.
David Dahl - MIF/OF (6-2/175) L/R Oak Mountain HS - Birmingham, Alabama
Dahl is an athletic MIF/OF with now skills. He has the frame that once it fills out will gain a lot of strength, which will translate well at the plate. He runs well and covers ground with nice baseball instincts and an advanced knowledge of the game. His arm is well above average with online accurate throws. At the plate he can hit early in the lineup or in the middle. He flashes nice bat speed and bat control. There is a lot of projection in this one with a high ceiling.
Sam Gillikin - OF (6-2/170) L/R Hoover HS - Hoover, Alabama
Sam is a talented athlete and also the starting quarterback on the nationally heralded Hoover
High football team. He is getting looks as a football prospect also, which could be a future problem for the Tigers baseball team. In a region and state where football rules supreme and from a school that has traditionally sent top football prospects across the country there always remains the chance that he will eventually sign a football scholarship, instead of baseball. It's a chance Pawlowski and Foxhall were willing to take. Sam is fast, athletic and shows advanced skills. Time will tell which direction he'll take, but should he decide to play baseball on the Plains of Auburn we feel he will prove to be a good choice for the Tiger's coaching staff.Posted at 11:56 AM in Alabama News, National News | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBack (0)

Auburn, Alabama
The Auburn Invitational has proven to be a scout and college recruiters must. Several top summer team have descended upon the Plains of Auburn to compete in the 2009 B.E.S.T. Auburn Invitational Showcase Tournament. The event is being played at Auburn University and Southern Union Community College in Wadley, Alabama. Teams from Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana are playing in the tournament. According to coaches ands scouts here they are finding the type talent they are looking for. Here are a few players who have caught our attention so far this weekend:
Ryan Bolden (R/L) - 2010 Outfielder - Madison, Mississippi
Ryan is a fast, strong and athletic prospect with nice tools. His arm shows strength with on-line accuracy. He covers ground well and shows some instincts for the ball off the bat with a soft glove. At the plate he hits form the right side, which might cause some concern but he shows bat speed and pop with gap power. Ryan plays for the Jackson 96ers summer team.
Stephen Smith - 2010 LHP (L/L) - Brandon, Mississippi
Stephen is a prototypical soft lefty with good location. His fastball sits comfortably between 78-80 mph with average arm side run. He works it to both sides of the plate well. He works backwards off a nice 1/9 curve ball at 65-66 mph that has sharpness in it's break. His change is also a nice pitch at 72-73 mph with nice sink to it. Stephen plays for the Jackson 96ers summer program.
Matt is a lanky wiry strong LHP with a power arm. His fastball sits 87-88 mph with nice life to it and he commands it well in the zone. He has nice mechanics and a good downhill plane. He also has a nice mid 70's slider that has above average bite. His body has projection in it at 6-2/180, which tells us he has the potential to get much better with added strength. His arm works well and is fluid and lively. Matt plays for the Columbus Chain 18U team out of Columbus, Georgia.
Brent Langston - 2010 1B (R/R) - Southaven, Mississippi
Brent is a country strong first baseman from Southaven, Mississippi with an upside to his game. He has now strength with more to come as he develops his body. At the plate he hits with a lot of pop, especially to his pull side. He shows some lift in his swing plane and some length, but has bat speed enough to handle velocity. At first base his feet are efficient around the bag and he can pick with above average skills. He is a nice follow for us this year to see how he develops. Brent plays summer ball for the Memphis Tigers.
Dalton is a young quick backstop with good hands and feet. He shows advanced receiving skills and blocks well. He has played up in the tournament and showed no intimidation and the ability to catch upper velocity pitching. At the plate he lacks good core strength at the present time, but he is young and developing. He just turned 15 and has a youthful look to him. We feel there is more development to come. He has some bat speed and handles the bat okay, but the core strength just isn't there at this time. His throws were on-line with backspin with pops in the low 2.0 range. HIs arm lacks strength, but his transfers are solid and quick. This one is a nice young follow as he develops. He plays for the Memphis Tigers during the summer.
Zacary Hawkins -2010 1B/LHP (L/L) - Covington, Louisiana
Zac is nice left handed 1B with a smooth typical lefty stroke. He stays inside balls well and shows nice plate discipline. He has gap to gap power and HR potential to his pull side. His feet are efficient around the bag at 1B with smooth actions and a soft glove. He can pick balls and has arm strength. He is slightly undersized for the prototypical college/pro 1B, but has the skills to play it. His bat is his strength a should get him into someone's lineup early. Zac plays summer ball for the Louisiana Knights.
Marshall "Boomer" Scarborough - 2010 (R/R) Pass Christian, Mississippi
Marshall is a big, thick bodied RHP with arm strength and arm speed. His fastball sat comfortably 87-88 mph and bumped low 90's several times. He has average command of it that should get better as he learns to repeat his mechanics better. He uses a nice mid 70's slider for his out pitch with effectiveness. Boomer plays summer ball with the Louisiana Knights.
Wes Rea - 2010 RHP/1B (R/R) Harrison Central HS
Wes is a promising two way prospect as a 1B/RHP. He has remarkable athleticism for a big man. He is 6-3/240+, but moves well with lightness in his feet. He has good actions around the bag at first base and softness in his glove. At the plate he has nice power and is a home run threat. He hit two mammoth shots at the tournament with wood proving he can handle wood at upper velocity pitches. On the mound he shows promise with a fastball that sat comfortably at 85-87 mph. A few scouts present commented that he bumped 90 mph a few times a couple of weeks earlier. He has a slider that shows promise at 73-74 mph. He also is a high profile football prospect as an offensive lineman, but has commented on his desire to play baseball as well. According to one coach present he has 30+ football offers. Likely, the one that allows him to play baseball also will win out. Wes plays summer ball for the Louisiana Knights.
Nick Leffridge - 2011 RHP (R/R) - Jackson, Tennessee
Nick is a promising right hander with a lively arm. His arm is compact and fast. He has only been playing baseball three years. Once he irons out some mechanical issues he could jump into the national limelight. His fastball sits 85-87 mph with some arm side run. His curve is 71-73 mph with a 11-5 tilt and bite. He struggles with his command largely due to failure to repeat his mechanics, but shows the athleticism necessary to make adjustments easily. He is a nice prospect we'll be following closely next year. He plays his summer ball with the Jackson Storm team.
Clift Covington - 2010 1B/OF (L/L) Leroy, Alabama
Clift is an athletic 1B/OF with a smooth left handed stroke. He shows nice skills at 1B and picks well with softness in his glove and efficient feet around the bag. He has a projectable frame that will get stronger with natural maturation and a good strength program. At the plate he hits with nice gap to gap power and centers balls with a lot of line drive and ground ball hits. He has the ability to become a very good college hitter with some polish to his stroke. He caught a good bit of attention at the tournament. He plays summer ball for the Bama Bombers.
Aaron Haag - 2010 1B/3B (R/R) - Hoover, Alabama
Aaron is a strong prototypical 6-4/200 corner infielder with now strength in his frame. He caught a lot of attention at the tournament and had a close following of coaches. He likely is a college 1B, but can play 3B if needed. He has arm strength at 82+ mph across the infield and can defend, but needs minor adjustments in his fielding mechanics that will make him a lot better. His strength lies in his bat. He hits with a lot of pop in his bat and is a home run threat. He has some length in his stroke, but shows nice bat speed and hand eye coordination. He has the potential to become a good college hitter. Aaron plays summer ball for the Bama Bombers.
Blake Bearden - 2010 C/1B (R/R) - Trussville, Alabama
Blake is back for the second time this summer and had another impressive outing at Auburn that caught the eyes of several scouts/recruiters. His projectable frame is an immediate eye catcher, but more impressive are his tools. He hits well with gap power and will hit for average. His stroke is solid with hands that are straight to the ball. He also runs bases aggressively and looks to take an additional base. Behind the dish he receives well with sub 2.0 pop times and online accurate throws. He throws behind runners well and can control the other team's running game. Solid prospect. He plays summer ball with the Bama Bombers.

Tournament of Stars
Presented by Major League Baseball
Cary, NC June 23-27, 2009
Report 3
Bobby Wahl (9) NABF Team, showed big time projection as a RHP with a 88-92mph fb with good life, 74-77cb with tight spin, 83 slider with advanced look, and 78mph chang up. Clean polished delivery with more velo to come. Easy arm action, look for Bobby to be one of the top pitchers in Virginia for pro traffic. A 2010 at West Springfield HS in Springfield, VA, Wahl has announced intentions to sign with Ole Miss.
Yordy Cabrera (9) American Legion Team lit up th guns and scouts eyes with his 89-94mph fb. Yordy is a 6'3 190 very athletic player with pro upside with the bat and on the mound. Advanced, polished delivery with more velo projected. A 2010 at Lakeland Senior HS in Lakeland FL, it seems a perfect fit for Yordy to be on display in August when the East Coast Pro Showcase rolls into Lakeland. A RH hitter with advanced pro power and advanced college hitting skills. Interestingly, Yordy is listed as a primary infielder but arm strength and frame will have some scouts placing him on the mound and a power bat and 6.78 sixty speed will have others placing him as a positional player. Looks like some team will pay to make that decision next June.
Deandre Smelter (19) USA Stars Team is another draftable two way player who will keep scouts talking about his true position on the field. Deandre is a 2010 from Tattnall Square Academy in Macon, GA. A 6'3 210 athletic player who posted a 6.65 sixty time and swung the ball very well. From the RH side he showed college power with wood and the strength to swing it. Simple and quick to the ball , he should be lethal with metal. Primary RHP, Deandre has a strong physical delivery with pro level arm speed. Ave ml fb, 90-93mph with solid life but he did struggle with command walking 5 in 1.2 ip's. Top round draft projection.
Scott Frazier (4) AABC National Team lit is up on the mound with 88-92mph fb, 70cb and 76ch. Scott is a 6'6 205 2010 from Upland HS in Upland, CA. Listed as a primary OF, his arm strength and frame will have many wanting to see Scott stay on the mound. A 7.12 sixty runner and showed very good arm strength in left field. Two outings on the mound with 2 k's in 1ip the first time out and has his fb catching too much of the middle of the plate in the second outing giving up a few run off 5 hits.
Connor Mason (6) Dixie Team third baseman with a big bat. A 2010 primary RHP who is home schooled in Suwanee, GA, Connor can bring it on the mound and swing it at the plate. Struck out 4 in 3 ip's in his first outing and 1 run in 2.1 ips' his second. Showed 86-90fb with good command, 70-73cb with nice angles, and 79mph change up. Smooth swing in the box and college level power. Strong two way player.
Monterio May (1) RBI Team showed toughness on the mound. Not the hardest thrower at 80-82fb but he has deception. Billy Wagner type delivery, Monterio will be tough on LH hitters due to his ability to hide the ball. Hitters get a very late look at the ball and with a little boost in velo, he should be very interesting at the college level. A 2010 6'0-175lbs LHP from Luverne HS in Grady, AL, Monterio is that "LH scrapper" so many teams need.
Jimel Judon (16) NABF Team, as far as being physical, Jimel Judon is a 2010 switch hitting 1B/RF from Myrtle Attendence Center in Myrtle, MS. is your man. Imposing in the box with big power and more to come. Lots of lift in his swing and just starting to figure it out, look for Jimel to have light pole power before it is over. Jimel has effective arm strength and posted a 7.34 sixty time. Developing and has the size and strength that pro scouts like to see.
Nick Castellonas (18) USA Stars Team is athletic and can sing it. The 6'4-200lbs infielder showed big time hitting skills with pro level power and impact hitting ability. Nick is a 2010 from Archbishop McCarthy in Davie, Fl with huge upside. Definite pro interest with quick feet, posted a 6.87 sixty time, and plus arms strength at SS and 3B. Good game ab's with wood, heavy scout traffic.
Tyler Garrone (2) Pony Team patrolled center field in most of the games for the Pony Team showing off 7.06 sixty speed and very good reads off the bat. Excellent range to each gap from a 2010 player from Kiski Area HS in Leechburg, PA. A RH hitter with solid bat speed and good hand strength. One of the better OF in the state of PA.
Kris Bryant (21) American Legion Team is a very athletic 6'5- 200lbs OF from Bonanza HS in Las Vegas, NV. Kris showed 7.01 sixty speed from a frame that will continue to add strength. In bp Kris showed big time power and advanced hitting tools, however, wood bat and high velocity pitching held him back a little in the games. Scouts will like the tools and another reason to stay a few days in Las Vegas when in to evaluate Bryce Harper. Toolsy with big upside, definite June interest.
Christian Lopes (13) Babe Ruth Team can do a lot. Hits for power and form, runs well, and can field and throw. Christian had no problem handling high velocity pitching with wood. A 2011 from Valencia HS in Canyon Country, CA has advanced bat speed and strength with the ability to hit with wood. Showed 7.01 sixty speed which should drop into the 6.8 range real soon. In the field the 6'0-185lbs, middle infielder, spent most of his inning at 2b, is fluid and moves well to both sides. Soft hands and developed footwork puts him at the top of the list for 2011 infielders nationwide.

Memphis, Tennessee
Some of the nation's best summer teams have gathered in Memphis, Tennessee in the Keith Hagan All American Classic. With the gathering of top teams comes the gathering of some of the nation's top college recruiters and professional scouts. The play has been almost as intense as the above normal heat. With temperatures soaring in the mid 90's players have been tested, but the heat hasn't tarnished the display of talent during the first part of the week long event. The recruiters and scouts have not been disappointed. While we could not cover every game, there were a few players that caught our attention early in the week. Here are a few:
Caleb Smith (LHP) - 2010 Huntsville, Texas - Houston Heat
Caleb is a tall left handed pitcher with a power arm. His delivery has a methodical, meticulous motion. He shows a fast arm with a clean delivery. His fastball sat 85-88 mph and bumped 91 a few times. His ball gets out of his hand well. He had a promising tight 1/7 curve that had nice deception and sharpness. Promising power lefty from a pitcher's state.
Drake Roberts (MIF) - 2011 Brenham, Texas - Houston Heat
Drake is a small middle infielder with smooth, athletic actions and nice range. He flashed a nice soft glove and good reads on ground balls. He comes to balls well and can make the routine plays. His body size and arm could limit him to 2B at the college level, but he has the fielding tools to be solid anywhere in the infield. At the plate he is a contact guy that controls the bat well.
Jason Adams (RHP) - 2010 Kansas - Building Champions
Jason is a big bodied right handed pitcher with the prototypical professional body. His arm works well and his delivery repeats pretty well. He has a fastball that sits comfortably in the mid to upper 80's and a nice slider that is tight with good deception.
Daryl Norris (RHP/1B) - 2010 Fairhope, Alabama - Bama Bombers Scout
Daryl is a promising right handed pitcher with a strong body and power arm. His fastball sits 88-91 and will run up to 93 occasionally. His arm works well and he has a nice clean delivery. His curve is 71-73 with a tight spin and sharpness. His change is a good pitch, but he seemed to struggle with commanding it at this time. He spots his fastball and curve well. He dominated a good hitting team. Daryl is a legitimate two way prospect as a pitcher/first baseman. He has a power bat that is a home run threat to all fields. He centers balls well with explosive rotation through contact and nice bat speed. Glove is solid and he runs well for a stocky, thick framed player and shows nice athletic actions.
Garrett Pitts (SS) - 2010 Fairhope, Alabama - Bama Bombers Scout
Garrett is a little undersized, but loaded with athleticism. He has nice speed, quickness and smooth actions that translates well at the middle infield positions. His arm strength is enough to make the deep throws at shortstop. He was impressive in the field with several difficult plays that he made look routine. At the plate he centers balls well and shows pop in his bat with the ability to hit to all fields well. He has verbally committed to Mississippi State University. In our opinion they have done well in getting him.
Nick Bergmann (RHP) - 2010 Houston, Texas - Houston Heat
Nick is a large framed right handed pitcher with a nice power arm. His body projects well and he has an idea what he is doing on the mound. He has a bulldog demeanor and presence on the hill. He struggled a little in the later innings repeating his delivery, but his mechanics for the most part were sound. His fastball sat mid 80's, but we see more in the tank. He is a solid upper level pitching prospect.
Michael Wells (C) - 2010 Niceville, Florida - Bama Bombers Scout
Michael is a slightly undersized catcher with nice skills. He receives well with solid setups and shows soft hands. He blocks well and is a nice catch and throw guy. His pop times ranged in the 1.94 to 1.96 area with backspin on his throws. His throws were on-line and accurate. Maybe his best tool is his left hand bat. He is an advanced hitter with gap-to-gap power and is a home run threat to his pull side (left). He is quick and straight to the ball. Solid college catching prospect.
Jordan Brown (OF) - 2010 Kansas City Barnstormers
Jordan is an athletic outfielder with fast twitch actions. he runs well and shows range to balls in the gaps. He has some rawness to his defense, but the talent is present to become a nice college player. he shows patience at the plate in the lead-off spot and hit to all fields.

Patrick Harrington (6) Pony Team catcher 5'9-180 R/R from Kellam HS in Virginia Beach, VA who showed off a hot bat with multi hit games dispite catching 7 innings in Wednesdays game and 9 innings on Thursday in oppresive heat. Top level prospect for college and definite pro interest. Gamer!
AJ (Andrew) Cole (11) Dixie Team showed why he will garner heavy pro interest over the next year with a 89-92mph fb with solid life and spotty sink and a nice 78mph cb. With a profile frame at 6'5-190lbs, AJ is a 2010 from Oviedo HS in Winter Springs, FL. Loose and easy with down angle fb and higher velocity projection coming from a clean delivery and a arm that works well , no doubt ,strong pro prospect.

Bryce Harper (16) American Legion Team has been profiled recently in national magazines and media outlets and there was anticipation on seeing Bryce at the event. A 6'3-206 , 2011 C/IF from Las Vegas Nevada. The most experts feel he is the most advanced player in the 2011 class and perhaps the 2010 class also. Bryce posted two sixty time at 7.44 on his first trip and 7.04 on his second attempt. Bryce showed top of the charts hitting ability and power, on a pro scale, in bp and shot a ball 103mph exit velocity off the bat during a game at bat. Big time arm strength behind the plate and in the outfield. Latest scuttle butt has Bryce entering a Comm College in Nevada in the fall the complete GED requirements and plans to be eligible for the 2010 Major League free agent draft.

13 Teams from within the Top 64 RPI rated NCAA D1 teams won their tournaments and received automatic bids. That means that 19 teams from outside the Top 64 RPI rankings won their tournaments and received automatic bids.
It shouldn't be that tough, anyone who has ever seeded a tournament knows that you follow the criteria you set up to determine the strongest teams. In most cases that is won -loss record, head to head match ups, ect.
In the NCAA Division 1 Baseball Committees case it should also be as simple, they themselves developed the RPI system to determine relative power ratings among all the school based on strength of schedule and wins over ranked opponents. Is this not how they determine the strongest teams in the country?
This
RPI ranking seems to have very little merit and very little foundation
when it comes to selecting the Top 64 D1 teams for the NCAA Baseball
Tournament.
32 teams get automatic bids and have to be let in, Those teams are listed below.
*** with 19 Teams making the tournament from outside the Top 64 RPI Rankings.
It should be very simple, excluding those 19 teams from outside the top 64 RPI rated schools,
64 minus 19 that have to be let in and you have 45 teams.
You now have the exclude the 13 teams within the Top 64 that won their tournaments and received automatic bids.
45 top RPI rated teams should be invited to regional's, of course
Hard job for the committee, but RPI should take the load off them in the decision process.
Schools that play better teams, and win, should be rewarded. A bonus is that with all the mid week match ups that allow smaller conferences to play the more powerful conferences, mid majors to small schools can compete.
How about a system that has mid week games matter, and you will see a better indication of the strength of a program. A staff of 3 weekend starters and 2 relievers would not be enough, teams would need two more quality arms and 2 more guys out of the bullpen.
This scenario maybe better for the overall balance in college baseball. More interest in college baseball at the mid major and small conference level would be a shot in the arm for the whole sport and would really drive ratings and interest in conference tournaments and post season.

2009 All National Team has be posted. Team is comprised of all 2009 high school graduates.
Players selected for this honor have the ability to compete with each other on a "National Level". Meaning that if all players are placed on a field together, all would be considered as exceptional , regardless of home state.
Players selected for this team have demonstrated a level of skill to play at the highest level of college baseball and perhaps would warrant consideration for the major league free agent draft. All-National Team players are considered elite among their peers, regardless of home state. This is not a list to just identify the best players from each state., therefore the number of players from each state vary.
No preset number has been determined for this list and we will consider
players as we evaluate games around the country this spring and receive
feedback from pro scouts, college coaches, and high school coaches.
